It was a day to remember at the 2025 Vasaloppet. Alvar Myhlback, only 18 years and 345 days old, won the men’s race and became the youngest ever to claim victory, in an unforgettable sprint finish against none other than Emil Persson, who crossed the line just one second behind in second place. Alvar, who made his Vasaloppet debut in 2023 (finishing eighth) and took third place in 2024, has made incredible progress in just a few years. Emil Persson, the 2023 Vasaloppet champion, once again entered the race as one of the top favorites - and delivered a strong performance all the way to the finish line, where Alvar ultimately edged him out for the win. The race was full of drama from the very start. Alvar pushed the pace early, reaching the highest point after just three kilometers in the lead, and showcased both endurance and tactical sharpness as the field broke apart after Evertsberg. Emil stayed close, keeping the pressure on all the way - and in the final meters, the duel between the two CTM athletes became the defining moment. In the decisive sprint, Alvar found exactly the position he wanted, moved up alongside Emil, and crossed the line just one second ahead. (vasaloppet.se)
For CTM, this is a double triumph: two of Sweden’s top-ranked cross-country skiers - one winner and one runner-up - under the same roof. Alvar’s historic victory highlights a tremendous future ahead, while Emil once again proves that he belongs among the very best with another world-class performance.
History is often written on the finishing stretch - and this year, victory was decided between two CTM athletes. Congratulations to Alvar on his remarkable win - and to Emil for an outstanding performance.
